100 Years Ago Today! (From Jim Cole)

1907 Forepaugh - Copy, originally uploaded by bucklesw1.

Mr. Cole sent these pictures of the mighty Adam Forepaugh & Sells Bros. Combined Shows on the centennial date of their appearance in Newport, Rhode Island July 19, 1907.
It was actually owned by the Ringling brothers, who after buying the Barnum & Bailey Show from the Bailey Estate in October, took this show off the road, storing the surplus equipment in Baraboo.

OFF SUBJECT, but no less another anniversary:

At 2:30 pm, at the time he would have been announced for his act in the matinee, Clyde Beatty died at age 62 on this date, 42 years ago, in 1965, of cancer, at Community Memorial Hospital, in Ventura, California. He was interred out of the Church of the Hills, Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills, California, on July 22, and rests beside his wife, Jane, and his in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Curran, in Forest Lawn's mausoleum, Courts of Remembrance.
