The Beatty Show played a lot like that in Huntsville, TX in 1981..That's where I learned that ants can swim...

Cindy,
When you live in Texas you find out real fast our fire ants can swim and bite. When they get on you and they bite they leave festered up places that rot the skin.
They float on top of the water and gang up together and then if you are close get on you.
When on a circus lot and there are fire ant mounds and you are walking around looking at stuff when you stop you better check your feet out and see if you are not standing in a in a bed of them.
I was helping out arrowing Circus Vargas and the engagement director was driving I was taping arrows on a pole at nite and when I got back in the car I felt something. Yes i had fire ants all over my jeans and I almost had to strip on the side of the freeway but luckly got out and got them off of me.
Luckly me and then on down the freeway a cop was waiting which i did not see taping up the arrows.
I talked my way out of that but I was sweating bullits.
Ah circus memeories.

Hi Harry!
Great to hear from you!!! I remember rolling up the safety nets around Hoovers cats, during teardown in Hunstville, TX. The nets were the only thing above the "water line" and I had to fight them to get the truck loaded! Too bad ants aren't big enough to be seen in the ring - that would be a great act!!!
