I caught C&B in 1981-82-83. Had completely forgotten that they were still using the entrance semi. The sideshow was independently owned and disappeared after '82.
Recall that Bobby Gibbs was on the show in '82 and '83. He was running the jungle rat pit show and regaling passersby with an entertaining patter.
Of those three years, I thought the '83 edition was best costumed. The spec theme was "Golden Age of Chivalry" with knights and princesses and such.
Once when visiting John Herriott on the Mills Show the subject of this marquee truck came up and Jake Mills said, "Never invite people to go up and down steps, you are just asking for law suits. Keep them on the ground as much as possible." On the other hand, D.R. always claimed that the canvas marquee was always the first thing to blow down.
1981 was the first of many years on Carson and Barnes. I can still hear Bobby Gibbs sitting in front of the 'Jungle Rat Show" (some agoutis) calling,
"Rats! Rats! Giant Jungle Rats! Just like the ones that starred with Ava Gardner in the movie 'Snows of Kilamanjaro!' See 'em now! Rats!"
I remember the "Golden Age of Chivalry" too. I wore a bright pink velvet dress riding for spec and menage, that weighed about 30 lbs. Heat stroke was a looming hazard on those hot summer days!

One could write a book on DR's wise aphorisms! I remember "If you don't advertise your business, the sheriff will."
I have bobby doing the 'Jungle Rat Show" pitch on video. It from when he was in sarasota in 2001.

David, I'll bet if ya send a copy to Buckles, the Shaz could put it on this site and we can all revisit Bobby's pitch?
