Vargas elephants in practice #4

"Brat" was the only one young enough for power tricks. To start this hind leg walk I had to place him between two others but by this time we only needed "Hattie" to guide him.

I rode an elephant named "HATTIE" on Kelly Miller during the long mount. Is this her? Did she do one of the three, three rings on winter dates for DR? I think "SHIRLEY" was one of the group anlong with "MARGRET"

It's the same one. She was named after the first elephant they ever owned.
Obert Miller told my dad that in the fall of 1939, he and sons D.R. and Kelly drove all the way out to the Barnes Quarters in Baldwin Park, Calif. with hopes of buying an elephant.
I think they scraped up about $500.
They were worried that they might wind up with something they couldn't handle but Cheerful Gardner led them to an old Ringling cow named "Hattie" that was very gentle.
A deed that always reflected well in the eyes of the Millers.
