From Kari Johnson

An ellephant bill in Connecticut that started out being very similar to the one we are fighting here in California has been amended and passed out of committee by one vote. The amended bill, # 7019, is attached. It outlaws the possession and use of the guide, elephant hook, ankus, whatever you call the traditional training tool that has been used to guide elephants throughout history. The result is the same as outlawing reins for your horse and a leash for your dog. It takes away the very tool that allows the animal to be led and guided under the incorrect assumption that humane use is not possible. The next step for this bill will be a house floor vote.
If this bill passes will set a precedent for the whole nation and will make it much easier for a bill like CA Assembly Bill 777 to pass here and in other states. The animal rights people have been taking versions of the bill all over the country. We cannot let them get one past us. We need to re-double our efforts. Please send out your letters if you haven't already done so. Send another letter. Follow up with a call or e-mail. Don't let animal rights activists legislate elephant out of our lives!
