Isn't that Graham's brother in the background, who was severly injured by a tiger about 10 years ago? I think his name is Richard. Does anyone know how he made out?
That whole incident was most unfortunate. From what I heard, the tiger act was being photographed for the Feld PR dept. and the photographer kept insisting on retake after retake.
Another example of show management having too much to say about animal acts.
Graham Thomas Chipperfield was attacked by the lioness Sheba, as he was breaking up a fight between two other lions, on February 24, 1993, in Norfolk, Virginia. Richard,Jr., then 19, flew in, rehearsed the act twice the next morning, and took over for the matinee. Graham credited his assistant, Anthony Hughes, who entered the cage and dragged him out, for saving his life. He also credited his heavy leather jacket. This may the incident referred to above. Hi Buckles, stumbled onto your site last night while suffering from a case of insomnia. Bloody good site. Great videos, thoroughly enjoyed the narrative. Please pass on my best to your family. I really did enjoy working with you guys while on the blue, especially when training with you and Shannon with the elephants ( a year with Gunther and then a year with you, what more could a young trainer ask for?). My brother is doing fine. He just got back from visiting Pinder in France and Krone in Germany. All the best chaps.

Yes it is. When I was back on the show in 1994-95 I got to know them both well and liked them a lot.
I was in Africa with their Uncle Richard back in 74.
