Note the muzzles on the stallions. There were some eight stallions in this group and pretty tough guys. Prior trainers were Jorgen Cristiansen, Jack Joyce, Adolph Delbosq and Paul Nelson and then I would present them once again in Detroit in 1953 and on King Bros. when some eight of them would perish in a truck going out of control down a mountain around Oil City, Pa. My dad came on the scene right after it happened and had to have state troupers shoot thre or four as the were so badly injured. I was in Calif. with the elephants working on the movie "Jupiter's Darling" when it happened. Also four good grooms were riding in the cab and crummy and they were killed as well. A sad time. Some of those horses had been part of the twenty four horse liberty act put together by Mr. Cristiansen for Cole in about 37. All of the above trainers would become very good friends and associates until they passed on and you can be sure I place a high value on that and especially the old school knowledge they imparted to me. It has served me quite well Also in-cluded would be the wonderful John Smith.

Some of those horses were also menage horses, trick riding and made up a major portion of the sixteen horse hitch among who some of the fine Roman Riders were my cousin Gee Gee for a couple seasons. I drove it opening night in 1950 in the CHICAGO sTADIUM because of injuries sustained by Jackie Lewis in a pile up in rehearsal and was quite happy when my dad and Frank Orman contacted Georgia Sweet in Indiana immediately to come and ride it. She was a great person and had ridden it previously.

I believe that when I worked them in 53 that we had pretty much replaced the originals over the years, but not all.
