Here we see him at about fifty, when he owned a 15-car railroad circus. This is Saber whom he added to the act in mid-1951 to replace his old reliable rollover Sleika, killed during the Detroit Shrine date. Both of these tigers were in the act for years, Sleika going back to the 1930s and Saber until the early 1960s, sometimes in late years confined to a menagerie cage as so difficult to handle. This picture was very popular with the press and was still in use at the time of Beatty's death in 1965. |
