The Hartzells #1

(Here are some pictures of your folks from my collection. The title for this ground bar act is not quite as catchy as the one used by Burt Lancaster and Nick Cravat at about the same time, "Slick tricks on the hickory sticks!")

In those days if you did a Horizontal Bar Act, you were a "Bar Actor", a "Hickory Stick Artist", or a "Hoe Handler". I doubt you can even find Hickory bars anymore, I seem to remember Johnny Hartzel making his own at one time, the hard part was drilling a hole through the length of the bar to insert a steel bar core.
