Back when I was last on the show, in '81, Johnny Pugh was saying Cookhouse was always a nuisance--usually in terms of who he could get to run it--but a necessary one since the boys relied on not walking long distances for a sandwich. I hope this is not the last straw for Cookhouse over there.

We didn't have one on Castle. The workingmen fed themselves out of $50 a week, and it usually came to hot dogs in some building's grease joint. I always felt Cookhouse offered a deeper sense of family on the lot. Long live Cookhouse.

Ran a cookhouse for a season in 1991. Absolutely the most rewarding job I've ever had ... on the days when I got it right. Nightmare on the days when I didn't. It was a carnival, so some guys got cookhouse, and others paid to eat there. Quickly discovered that garlic was not half as popular as I'd imagined. That year I'd buy the newspaper for the grocery ads and throw everything else away. Not sure if I ever knew how the first Gulf War ended. Season ended just before Thanksgiving, and I remember doing turkeys and thing that was just about as much fun as I was every going to have.

Sorry to hear about that. We have had one of the best cookhouses on the road for the past 3 years because of a great woman named Sara D. She cooks 2 meals a day 7 days a week with no days off once the season started. Today we had taco salad for lunch ( always more than you can eat) and for dinner we had bbq chicken, green beans, and scallopped potatoes.
