Vanderburg & Hall Circus #1

I love this classic picture of two mud show operators standing in front of the marquee in Eaton, Ohio 5/11/42.
Storm Schultz with the straw hat and cigar and Frank Hall with the turned down Panama.

Hello Gang,
Good friend Stephen Flint sent me an email yesterday about an article in the May / June 1969 issue of Bandwagon that dealt with these wagons somewhat.

I'll mention the following for those that don't have access to this article. It turned out these photos are quite rare in that the show lasted just this one day.

The Wolf tab was built from the ground up by Vernon Soules around 1938 with one side panel from the Ringling cage # 51 that dated back to the 1893 show. He also built four cages, an air calliope and a Bandwagon. He advertised this ensemble as the Only Circus Street Parade in the United States without a Circus.

By 1945, he had them at the Chicago arena with Terrell Jacobs and they returned to Terrell's farm in Peru. Mr Soules died shortly thereafter and Terrell Jacobs "inherited" them. A gentleman named Lee Allen Estes of Lexington, Ky. bought them from the Jacobs estate in 1958 and they went to the Circus World Museum in 1967.

Great Thanks to Stephen Flint for telling me about the article and of course to the article's authors Richard Conover and Stuart Thayer, both terrific Circus Historians in their own rights.
