Received this beautiful picture from Bill Strong as well as corrections from John Herriott regarding some mistakes in my original narrative. This act was trained by Franz Althoff's brother Adolph who brought it to this country for Charley Baumann to work. He was accompanied by his son Fanzi and future daughter in law Evy who had no background in the circus at all. As it turned out the tiger had an immediate and lasting dislike for Charley so Adolph worked he act most of the first season, his son Franzi was a horse trainer so if fell to Evy's lot to eventually learn how to work the act.

Lucky Tiger if ya ask me!
Far and away, one of the most stunning women ever to grace a circus ring, and I know my showbroads.
During the years I knew her, Evy was one of nicest and most popular people on the Ringling show. At the time, she was married to Franz Althoff, scion on the famous Euopean circus family. As the photos prove, Evy always looked like a million bucks in the ring, performing the act with grace and confidence.
The Col. is probably right. Six months before I went on the Ringling show, the first time, Charley came to visit at Marineland. As we were walking toward's the tigers, Rajah started screaming and doing back-flips when he saw Charley. Charley asked if he was a speciality tiger. I said he did a shoulder stand in the act, and rode the elephant Joyce. He then told me about the Althoff tiger. Go figure.
You said it Gary wow!11111
Evy and Franz Althoff came to the St. Louis Zoo for a visit with the Director when the show played the Arena a few blocks away. The Director wasn't a big circus fan but I'm sure he enjoyed seeing Evy. I was introduced to them, and has others have said, she was very pleasant. She always looked great, in and out of the ring.
Yes she is great, beautifull, the best a man can get. I know it.I have the pleasure to be her husband.
