Althoff Riding Tiger 1970 #1

I think this is one of the nicest animal acts I ever saw, trained and originally presented in this country by the great Franz Althoff and later worked by his daughter Evy as seen in these exquisite pictures taken by Eric Beheim in 1970.
John Ringling North imported the act in 1967, the same year he sold the show.
This was a huge tiger and as you can see is using a mat as a reference point rather than a pedistal.

Would this be the Circus Althoff family from Germany? Didn't Rudy Jacobi marry Evy at one time?

Jacoby married Elfi Althoff, not the same peson by any means.
Like most European cicus families, their background is very complicated,
however I am told that the Franz Althoff branch was the best known and most talented.

Things pretty slow here do to the heat and humidity. I will pass this along to kill time. I teach my pets to do their stays useing a beach towel That towel is theirs alone and always used for the same thing. I take that item when we visit the vet, neighbors, etc. She must stay on her towel. If the pet is a puppy she can chew it up and it is not costly to replace. As long as that pet is on her towel I do not say a word to her for any corrections. Its her safe place. Like a babys blanket. If it survives training I then put it in her bed when she is old enough to stop chewing. I also used it in the van to set on while in her seat harness. Simple Try this at home.

My Onkel Adolf Althoff is the one that trained the Tiger to Horse act and worked the Act for the first year on Ringling. The folloing year Evi and Adolfs Son Franzi came on the Show and Evi worked the Tiger Act and Franzi Liberty Horses and later trained some High School Horses. After Ringling the the went back to Germany and took over a Lion Safary Park from there Vater. In 1976 the opend there own Show, Circus Althoff Williams, and Evi presented a Tiger act with 10 animals that was trained by Franzi.
It was one of the most beautyfull Tigeracts I have ever seen, maybe not trickwise but the presentation
was stunning.
Elfi Althoff was a distand relaiton to my Familie, she was a Aunt to Jacky Althoff how was on Ringling with the Bear act.
My Grandvater was Dominik Althoff how had 8 children, and the three most well known ones are, Carola Williams, Franz Althoff and Adolf Althoff. The all had there own Shows and Franz had the biggest one with more than 200 Animals. He was famos as an Elephant Trainer and for his Liberty Horse Act with 100 Horses in the Ring at one time. All Stallions. I worked on the Show when he went from 60 Horses to 100 Horses and I think I got more of his wip then the Horses.
