From Eric:
Baby LeRoy was, of course, W.C. Fields' foil in his films of the early 1930's.
Just Great!!!! When I worked with Margret, I had not worked elephants very much. I thought I invented the tassels on the head piece. I made them with hooks so I could change colors to match my wardrobe. I do believe this is the only picture of Babe on an elephant that I have seen. Who is Mae West? I would have thought this was you with your mom. When I say not worked with elephants. I should say I had never seen one before Kelly Miller. KOA came after that.
Those are some nice, chubby little elephants
Mae West starred as a big cat trainer in I'M NO ANGEL. She was tops in double-entendre, and few may remember that she wrote all her own scripts. Her impact on film was so great as a sex goddess that it seems incredible she made only ten pictures, with a very few cameos.
When we were shooting DR. DOOLITTLE, in April, 1967, at 20th Century-Fox, they were shooting VALLEY OF THE DOLLS right across the street from us, on Stage 20. We all went outside to see Mae West arrive. It was quite an event. Up drives this studio blue limo, and six--count 'em--six bodybuilder guys get out. Then comes Miss West, gingerly taking the hand of one of her escorts, and grandly exits the limo. The studio scuttlebutt, we were told, was that she needed to be led onto the set so she would not have to look down--if she did, her makeup would crack.
She turned to us as we applauded her arrival, and gave us a cheery wave. But true to legend, she didn't look down.
Mabel Stark doubled her for I'M NO ANGEL, and adamantly refused to acknowledge that any other female star worked in an animal film, snubbing Barbara Stanwyck in BURMA ROAD, and Elizabeth Taylor in ELEPHANT WALK, just to name two. Miss West was quoted several times saying if she ever invied another woman, it was Mabel Stark.
Permit me to correct myself here. Miss Stanwyck's elephant picture was not Burma Road, but ESCAPE TO BURMA (1955). The tiger hunt shots were filmed out here at the Old Place, known then as World Jungle Compound.
You'll have to to forgive my little errors here and there, I'm nearly 50 years of age.
To Buckles and Shannon: I'm responding to these shots, and clicking on PUBLISH YOUR COMMENT, but they sometimes are not getting on. I don't know why not.
I correct myself about BURMA ROAD. Miss Stanwyck's animal picture was ESCAPE TO BURMA (1955). Most of it was shot at our Old Place, then known as World Jungle Compound.
I'll have to be forgiven for my little errors. I'm nearly 50 years of age.
Roger - We added what is called Comment Moderation.
With this we can curb and nip in the bud the nuts that were starting to SPAM the site.
Basically in a nutshell - all comments go thru dad before they are posted. So don't worry, your posts will go thru.

This is what ele chat and buckley did to me so their groopies would not read some of the really stupid things they were saying to each other about the circus and Zoos. A couple of times I noticed buckley did do as I suggested after watching her people try to unload elephants from the truck. She got so pissed at me and told the group I was VILE. It was just a matter of minutes of me writing suggestions, so she must have had me tuned in. I just about fell out of my chair laughing so hard. Four hours they spent trying to unload a circus elephant. At My suggestion it took four minutes.
OK. I though it was me screwing up for general lack of computer education.
