"Billy Rose's Jumbo" 1962

Jimmy Durante and "Sidney", and as mentioned before, this elephant was included in a group of punks imported by Wm. P. Hall in 1925, of which two were named for Hall's daughters "Sidney" and "Wilma".

Question from Eric:

What became of Sidney?

Her last few years were spent with King Bros. Circus (Beatty Show #2 Unit) and died in 1972.

Most of the comment persons on this blog were once "Just DUMB Kids" with a shovel. Just look at us now. Except me. I am still shoveling poop. And loving every day of it.

I on the other hand no longer shovel it but I do stay in deep
S%$t at all times at work. That has to count for something. I mean I really don't even have to work at it anymore, it just comes naturally now. Is that the sign of a trained Professional? Time for me to go I think. But just to cover my tracks I will say that the Percosets are wonderful after surgery snacks.

Jimmy Durante was a Circus Fan Association Member until the day he died...I had the occasion during the late 50's or early 60's during the Jack Kennedy GALA Rehearsal that was being held at the D.C. Armory under the direction of Frank Sinatra to met Mr. Durante. I ask him how did he ever become a CFA Member? He said, he found out about CFA while doing the original "JUMBO" in New York and joined. A very nice person.

Bob, We take the same "SNACKS". Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. Off subject or wrong spot but, The Belleview shot reminded me of something. I have collected Birdhouses for years. I have MANY. Last week a client brought me another and commented that it was a reflection of "ONE FLEW OVER THE COOKOO NEST" around here. I did not take that personal, but she may have hit the nail on the head.

Every remembrance of Mr. Durante depicts him as among the most gracious of the big-time stars. He was a sweet man.

So was Bud Abbott. His nephew, Norman Abbott, directed us when we took Jungleland animals to Universal for the un-aired pilot for WALTER OF THE JUNGLE. He told me Uncle Bud went out of his way to welcome visitors to the set, and was totally charming with his fans. His partner, well, chose another route. Bud became fast friends with Clyde Beatty during the shooting of AFRICA SCREAMS.

Another life-long member of CFA was Joseph Cotten.
