From Darlene

A man of many talents as seen here on the Beatty Show. I remember in the early 60's when Rex was the catcher in a flying act on Howard Suesz Show. Seems like the flyers were Joanne Day and Wally Naughten.
The only thing was, Rex would never give up on a trick, whether by two hands, one hand or both ears, you were caught.

I well remember this act from the '64 Beatty show. They were on just at the time when I went back into the Big Top to carry out Mr. Beatty's safety cage. I always had to drop down and wait for Rex's signal that it was OK to move. Kathy Brooks, a Digger Pugh girl, also worked in this act, and once took a bad fall and had internal injuries. Herbie Weber gave me the insurance papers, and I went to the hospital to handle the paperwork for Kathy on behalf of the show. Kathy recovered well, and went back into the act late into the season, as I recall.

Thank you!
My parents are my heroes, now and then.
I had the most wonderful childhood. There is nothing I would trade. My dad was the greatest trainer and elephant man but above all he was the greatest dad. He loved his animals and I always knew how much he loved us kids. He was a hands on father and I will always praise him.
I miss him very much and I was proud to hold his hand when he passed.

I just hope I can give my daughter the same good memories.

See now, I am crying. Thanks for all the kind words.
Darlene Williams

Ps I will send Buckles more old photos.

So many family stories, and each could be a book in itself. Now I'm curious. Was Rex born into the business? Did he start with elephants, or was he a rider first? I'm guessing there's no connection to the German Williams.

My dad ran away from home and joined the circus at 14 because he wanted to travel. I believe he joined the Marines at age 16 (he lied about his age). After he served his time with the Marines he went back to the Circus. Someday I will put it all down on paper.

Wow, Darlene, I just read your stunt bio. Very impressive. And, you are freaking GORGEOUS! Had to smile about you being Pamela Anderson's stunt double. Did you and her ever discuss circus animals?
