Someone asked a week ago, what became of the Floto-Sells big male elephant
"Big Floto".
He got loose and went on the lam for about 24 hours in Orange Texas,
back in the 1920's (I think)
The town posse and sheriff caught up with him and shot him outside town there.
I think he was buried near the old water tower.
Most if not all the Sells-Floto elephant males met tragic endings.
Snyder,Barney,Charlie Ed,
Billy Sunday
Vance, Tommy and Prince fall into that group however Barney was an Al G. Barnes elephant. Named after Barnes in fact.
I misspoke "Vance" was an Al G. Barnes elephant as well, named after Vance Hill, son of Wm. V. Hill a friend of Barnes.
Tusko and the notorius "Black Diamond" were also a AL. G Barnes elephant too.
What about"Snyder II"?
I think his name was Billy at one time.He was killed in Peru Indiana.
AL. G. Barnes"Barney"the dwarf elephant'
went to Mexico never to be heard from again.Anyone know what became of him?
The tragic end of Big Floto,is one of the elephant stories one doesnt herar about much anymore, because the story has not been re-told ,un like Black Diamond's story.
"Yank Show Billy" left in Peru Quarters after the 1930 season and shot 8/8/31.
From what I remember"Barney" was sold to a circus that went to Mexico, and they had him fight lions in a bull ring for the public's spectacle.
hi
Sure enjoyed the pictures of Carson & Barnes and Tex Carson Circus. I have a lot of pics from 1959 thru 1964 of Famous Cole. Will try and locate them and post them.
