The Orton Family #5

This is a copy of a badly tattered original taken on the Miles Orton Show in 1903. The big top is in the background with the side show at right. At left is the "free act" which was given to draw patrons to the lot early. The man on the ladder in the upper left hand corner will dive into the net below.

I might add that this crowd by far exceeded those received by Ken & Nicole recently in NYC.

I was going to write some smart remark about the size of the crowds for the Orton Show and the current "Dream Circus" playing the cavernous Madison Square Garden.

However, upon reading Rebecca's comment above. There is nothing more I, or anyone, can possibly say that will top that!

Mr Macpherson, I will be better when my meds kick in. This is my therapy. Either this Buckles Blog or the Luney Bin. At least here someone talks back to me in writing. There they only talk in my head.

Buckles: Just curious. How many years was the Orton wagon show in existence? Did it transition over to trucks post WW I?
Also, you've occasionally mentioned the wonderful Thomas Duncan novel "Gus the Great" but have you read his other novel "Rose in the Ring" which was based on the Orton show?

Three center poles -- two rings?

Ben,
I am guessing but I think it might be a ring and a stage.

Karen, I hate it when Gary goes to horse shows on the weekends. I took two pain killers and worked in my cematery most of the day. Like I really need to be laying a brick path and moving statues and fountains. Probably be on crutches for the reast of the week. I need to start drinking again. I can't do this sober any more.
