Bell Bros. Circus 1946 #3

"Ena" looks nice and fat, she was an odd looking elephant tho, no neck at all. I don't know how they got away with an elephant truck with a canvas top, not only would it weaken the structure but a clear invitation for her to do a little interior decorating. Looks like the crummy is in the back end rather than over the fifth wheel.
The lump on her foreleg is a tumor, I have seen a lot of them. If someone had spotted it when it was small all you had to do is wrap a rubber band around it's base as tight as you can and after cutting off the circulation it will fall off in a day or so. My father showed me how to do that.
"Anna May" once got one on her jaw but it was cone shaped and the rubber band kept slipping off so he laid her down, soaked a hoof knife in iodine and cut if off by hand. He showed me how to make sure the roots had been included or it would grow back.
A lot cheaper than flying in a Vet from Chicago.

Remind me not to eat my breakfast of warm beer and cold pizza at my computer again.

Vets charge hundreds to remover fatty tumors from animals. Most of the time they do not tell the client they will grow back. If it is not effecting a vital organ or hendering the pet in any way it is best to leave it alone. Pets are usually older and the trama of the surgery is harder on them then the tumor. Thats my opinion and probably will hear from others with theirs. JC was my best teacher and he learned from regular doctors. He went to the best in America and Canada. He also groomed my little Poodle in less time and did a better job then most goomers she went to later. Adk LJ to tell the story of Buckles lanceing a Boil on Rebecca's leg. Not me, the elephant. I think she is at PAWS run by Pat darby. Not sure.

She was one of the Billy Smart elephants and had a tumor almost twice the size of Ena's and located on her keft rear knee cap.
They flew in Doctor Dan the Business Man and he loaded her up with Rompum a drug I had never heard of and to my utter astonishment she lapsed into a state of semi-slumber while still standing erect. Her eyes were half closed and she only flapped her ears once every five minutes. Meanwhile Dr. Dan made an incision in the form of an "X", peeled back the skin and removed the tumor slick as a whistle.
When I was back on the Ringling Show in 1994 she was in the herd and I couldn't even find a scar.
As far as I know she is still with the Company.
I hope Orbit doesn't read this one in the morning.

Thanks to all that water theropy to heal her knee. Didn't that tumor or bursa weigh about 8lbs?

Sounds about right.

Its pityfull SUE did not have a DR DAN. Giving an elephant a tranquilizer[?] to draw blood is the stupidest thing I have heard of. Especially since SUE was used to this. This is unforgivable.

Rebecca at PAWS did come from the RBBB.

I would definitely like to see any such pictures
sounds like Dr. Dan was a better vet than he was a crook

Years ago, one of those doctor Q&A newspaper columns said you can get rid of very small skin tags with sewing thread, tying it off really tight at the base, and wait a few days (taking care to watch for redness and keep it clean). It leaves scar-free, normal skin. Always be wary of strangers offering medical advice, but for tiny little problems, you judge if it's worth a painless experiment.

Sounds like a good way to do a castration.

Was going to ask ***** ***** if he wanted to voluntee, but he said ***** ******* already did it to him years ago.

On my final exam for vet tech, I missed three items. One of them was I castrated a goat, but did not take enough out. This is why I speak of the deed. I am very careful about this type of thing now. I always stand by when any pet in my care gets any surgery. I have all the equipment to perform simple surgery. After 911 I bought everything that I would need to care for my animals for one year and no vet or medication would be available. In my mind I could do any emergency, actually having to do it might be something different. Hope Me and mine never have to go down that road. In this area of the country there is a difference between a vet assist and a vet tech. $10 an hour more in salary is one difference. After any spay or neuter of my pets I take them home as soon as I can remove the tube from down their throat. After ten days I remove the stitches. I use the little sissors with the hook that embrodory people use to remove stitches. Not manacure sissors. I also have the vet use colored thread so I can clearly see all the stitches. It came in handy when I had to remove 40 stitches from my Black German Shepards ear after flap surgury.

I have a small herd of goats that I use to train my horse's how to cut. When I have little males born they get a rubber band around the waveo's and in about two weeks it drops off clean as a whistle! I still get a dull ache you know where!!!
