Soliel on the march

I heard from a friend that Soliel grossed 1.1 million and change with their indoor unit on a two day stand in Albany (2 performances). It's just a matter of figuring out how to squeeze in five performances a week and fine tuning the route. The show moves on 22 trucks.
Feld Entertainment must be feeling the hot breath of the Frenchmen particularly since they have also gained control of the Sigfried & Roy venue in Las Vegas.
Of course you can always double the price on the floss.

Buckles, what do you mean? The Felds have lost Sigfried and Roy,or that Soilel has lost them? I can't keep up with all of it.

I do believe that the Sigfried and Roy location is occupied by yet another Cirque du Soleil production.

I thought everyone lost them. One of the finest animal acts ever. For not being a circus. Two of my favorite people.

Soleil are Canadiens...French Canadiens

Somehow the idea of tapping everybody who comes through the door for at least $100 just doesn't sound like "circus." Maybe real circus worries too much about Soliel -- which in point of fact appeals to a different audience. I'm guessing if you can drop $100-$200 to see Cirque, you can probably afford to attend RBBB as well if you're interested in two entirely different products.

They certainly are. Years ago when we were playing Lincoln Center with Big Apple, these people would show up and follow Paul Binder around the lot asking questions. All they had was a panel truck with a sun burst painted on the side.
I asked Paul who they were and he said they were from Montreal and were trying to take out a circus.
Who would have thought it?

For the life of me I can not see how stage shows can call themselves CIRCUS . CIRCUS means RINGS. These shows have no RINGS. Is this brain surgery? Just because you have zillions doesn't mean you can change the meaning of the word. They should be able to invent a new word for their shows with all that zillions. Stealing a word when you could buy a new one makes more sense and less enemys.

The original "Sun Circus" show they took out in Ontario back then -- mid 80's -- lost money. Fortunately the kindly government of Quebec propped them up financially until they had a formula that worked

Hi there folks. I have an unrelated question...2 really...1) What year did ringling stop performing under canvas, and 2) any info on the history of the elephants Pete and Conti, both now passed, who were on the CBCB?

I have an unrelated answer: you give the keys to your friend to take the old lady to get help and you stay at the busstop with the girl of your dreams because shes the girl of your dreams so everything will work out.

To bakeliteradio: Ringling closed under canvas for the last time in 1956.
Conti came to America with Louis Reed as part of the Dailey Bros. Circus elephant collection. She was given to Ben Daveport's daughter Norma as a wedding present along with four other elephants. From 1950 to 1960 she stayed with Norma. By 1961 she was sold to the Clyde Beatty organization and remained there and on the King Bros. and Sells & Gray shows all owned by the General Circus Corp. then the Acme Circus Corp. until her death in 1999 of kidney failure. She was 57 years old.
Pete started out in show business being known as PeeWee. She joined the Beatty show in 1952 and her name was changed to Petunia or Pete for short. She died in August of 1999 of kidney failure also. She was 51 years old.
