Such a pretty smile! She looks like she is so happy to be where she is. I would be too.

Buckles,

Believe it or not (not a ripley's), but this picture is amoung some others that I was going to ask you about. You know the five W's.......anyway, this one was in my parents "Banner" briefcase. These others are not familiar to me either, but again I was just a kid at the time and alot of these pictures come from Shipley, from his days on the Ringling...

Do you have any knowledge at all about Shipley, he very seldom talked about his past and had no intentions of answering many questions, but I would really like to know about his ventures of the past.....heck I don't even know when he died, or if he's buried there in Hugo or not. Do you?

thanks, Ruby

Thanks so much for the info on Shipley, anything that you might have to offer about him would be very much appreciated.

Please send me your e-mail address or someway of sending you some pictures that I think you might be interested in, I have several now and more to come, but just don't know how to get them to you. Please let me know what I need to do.

Thanks,

Ruby

Richard Reynolds says - - -

With Sudan's ears spread like in this photo you can plainly see that she was a plains or bush elephant instead of a forest elephant. Her running mate Puqua had the very round ears typical of the forest elephant(a so- called "pygmy"). Both were brought over by Howard Y. Bary for the 1936 season.

I read where Sudan was actually a Savanna elephant and not a forest elephant like they others that were shipped over with it.
Sometimes during the dry season savannah elephants enter the forest and search for fruit.
