More pictures from Karen G. #1

I pondered this picture for quite a while trying to remember what in Hell we were up to. It was obviously taken when the park was temporararily closed and at the time Rex Williams was dropping off his elephants while he delivered his rhino to Mexico.
Then it all came back, someone pointed out that we now had seven male elephants in the herd and it would be neat-o to have them all lined up for a picture. Made perfect sense at the time.
I am standing with "Sobik" and "Hugo", Rex has "Reed" and "Gardner" and Gary Jacobson is holding "Vance", "Major" and "Charlie".

I think the pictures I have are duplicates of yours.
A good friend of mine told me that for some reason this was one of Chappie's favorite experiences which he enjoyed describing during cocktail hour and especially among mixed company.

Karen, you have to watch those ELDERLY MEN. They don't call them dirty old men for nothing. Love everyone of them. Every female should have a couple in her life. Spice things up once in a while.

That is not "Gardner" next to my dad. Gardner never had tusks. My dad always trimmed them down because Gardner always tore up the inside of the truck if he didn't.

Karen-I would love to see the other photos you have with my dad and Reed.

Thanks Buckles for all the great photos.

Buckles,
Can you provide any history on SOBIK? I have him at the Central Florida Zoo in 1975 and at Circus World in 1976. That's all I have.
Bob

Is this the Sobik that came from Central Florida Zoo?

Looks like Bill and Bonnie the africans in the background as well.

Buckles said...

Yes it is.
Bob Cline just asked me what became of him. Just recently someone told me but I failed to write it down as I must do these days.

I write stuff down Buckles, then can't find the tablet I wrote it down in. I also make all kinds of list and then lose them. Its a good thing we don't do brain surgery.

I think when Rex had him on Vargas his name was changed to Tusko, but not sure if this is same elephant.

Buckles,
When Rex sold the rhino to Suarez, he supposedly sold a zebra and African elephant as well ( according to a Circus Report mention ). Who was the African? Was it Kiki ?

Buckles said...

I have Rex listed with five elephants that year Reed, Gardner, Gyp and two Africans McLain and ______?
Neither of the Africans are listed the following year.
So maybe that's your Tiki?
