Ringling Bros. World's Greatest Shows 1909 #1

Since we have been on the subject of radical changes in the circus I thought a few pictures from this large layout (about 20 pictures in all) might be apropos. Traditionally the Ringling Show opened in the Chicago Coliseum but after the Ringlings bought the Barnum Show from the Bailey Estate in 1907 and no doubt dictated by vanity, they decided to switch routes in 1909 putting the Boys from Baraboo in Madison Sq. Garden for the first time where this photo-op was staged.
The results must have been disappointing since it would have entailed moving one show from Bababoo to NYC to open and Barnum & Bailey from Bridgeport to Chicago. The following year the shows returned to their normal routes.

The caption under this picture says "Facetious tho he be,the Schoolmaster at the Circus Children's School is a stickler for discipline".
You may notice, only one girl in the class.

Vet school, and I am still dumb as a post. Circus was the best teacher I ever had. The one school I never attended was High School. Weird huh!
