Are these Purchrons[?] Were there three breeds of horses used for bareback? I will alway remember Chewlo from the Loyal act. I can hear Luchana giving commands in the ring. Such a big horse and such a little girl. Were most of the horses white? Was a reason for this? Flashier or just the breed?

The big Roan in front was named "Baby" and would actually give a lift with his rump on cue, you can see from the position of his tail that he is on his way down.
This gave Lucio the incredible height
on this full twist as well as the somersalt from one horse to a third.
His groom was named Fuccini and I remember on the Winter dates the horses traveled by baggage car and one load out "Baby" managed to fall between the car and the loading dock and was wedged in. Fuccini was sobbing "My Baby", "My Baby", but they got him unstuck and he was OK.

There was one bareback act that I played several dates with. They were from England. They also has a unicycle act. Their bikes were lost on the way over and they were devastated. It just so happened JCs dad owned a building where they made unicycles. He saved the day. The mother in the act told me this story. She never forgot his kindness. Wish I cvould remember their name. The daughter married their groom.

Sounds like The Scotts/dorchesters/Stebbings. L.S

Thanks. It was the Dorchesters. Are they still around? They were a very nice family group.

I am confused. I think roan is a color combanation of a horse, not a breed. I remember a couple of Strawbeery roans with Appolusion rear ends from my horse days. Full brothers Tom and Jerry. Any horse experts out there?

Rebecca, they look like perchrons. Appaloosas are built lighter.

I thought they were Perchrons. The Tom and Jerry team were ridden by Gene Garner Rome Style. They were full brothers. Strawberry roan colored with Appaloolus spotted rear ends. He broke them for DR. I don't know what or where they went. There was something very special about them. As I was not into horses then I did not pay that much attention. I do know they were big.

I just remembered they had a roman nose. Very flashy looking horses

Roans are usually red roan or blue roan. It's a combination of white hairs mixed with whatever color the horse is. App's can crossbred with any other and you get spots plus the roan hairs. App's alone do not roan out themselves. The roans do carry a recessive gene as do palamino's and paints. Hope this helps? Gary P.S. I think Roman Noses are UGLY! Just me.

Gary, No part of any animal is ever ugly. Most of my favorite animals are different and the smartest of the bunch. Even TINA the Kelly Miller elephant. She would never win any beauty contest.

Roman noses are undesireable with any breeder. But it does not hinder with performance.

Yes Roan is recessive, but with paints you usually get 50% chance of color except with a homozyous tobaino meaning you will get 100% color with one.

You can get palomino color always with a cremello horse. I had a mare that produced a palomino and buckskin (with a bay) so she has the cream gene.
