Is that the same Peggy that has been with the Riddles in Ark. for a number of years?

No, this "Peggy" was among the elephants Ringling purchased from the Billy Smart Circus in 1972.
The elephant you refer to was with Ringling at this time but on the Red Show where she was called "Eva".
I acquired her in 1981, she being within my price range (free) and I immediately changed her name to "Peggy" after my sister in law.
I eventually retired her to the absolute best of the Elephant Sanctuaries owned by Scott Riddle.

Speaking of sanctuarys. Seems like tes has only one male that can dig a post hole. He was too busy OBSERVING SUE dieing to do the post hole digging which is now two weeks behind. Lord I can dig a dozen post holes in a day and I am female and 63 years old. This move to tes is almost a bigger joke then RBBB. Poor boy has aged 30 years in two. All that kissy face with Hawthorn elephants Delhi and Misty is hard on a boy. He had better learn to run faster with the rest of the elephants. Or use tranquilizers/oops

Sick elephant dies at Richmond Farm. Sue was not sick. Humans killed her. Buckley sure tries to cover her ass. I wish someone at the Tribune would get the fact from someone besides her. Hawthorn elephants are healthy, Just killers. I am as wired as waiting for the unvailing of Ken and Nicole for these elephants to finally get to Tes. Then we will get to see these experts in action. Bet that camera has a lot of breakdowns there. If the elephants were sick they would not be allowed in Tenn. SUE was still breedable wasn't she? Odd that this death happened to her. Bless you SUE. Buckley has to take these elephants or expose herself as the person that we know she really is to her eleafanherd.

What can you tell me about Gilda?

Buckles said...

"Gilda" was another one of those elephants from the Billy Smart Circus that came over from England in 1972.
She was in my center ring act "Carmen", "Hugo", "Peggy", "Zina", "Gilda" and "Charlie". She was very nice and gentle.
After I left the show she was sent out to the Sigfried & Roy Show in Vegas where she appeared as long as the show existed then died there suddenly last year.

In 1976-1977 at Circus World I rode the " Peggy " in Mr. Dirgos drawing under the direction of our Captain William Woodcock prior to them leaving for the Blue Unit, most likely where this drawing was made. Peggy was a rather large & gracefull elephant with BIG movements. She was an enjoyable ride, kinda-like a early/mid 1950's Packard Clipper Sedan. That's fond memories for me ! - Bud

Peggy was one of my favorites at CW. When the park was real crowded, Buckles would let me use a couple of the Show elephants for the ride. I had the Misfit's for the ride there. George, Modo, Rebecca and Vance. Peggy and Gilda were my help on busy days! I actually found two of Peggy's teeth. One at Winter Quarters and then at CW. I showed Buckles the first tooth and it immediately became his or Barbara's. I shut my month on the second one. I have it on my mantle above my fireplace! Those were the days! Gary

Let us not forget Marcella who enjoyed the rides shade on her last few days. Somehow her story seems fitting on this Blog as we witness the circus fade away into our unique and cherished memory. I will never forget the day that Sammy tailed up George behind Marcella on the way back to the picket line. She took off and almost ran through a fence, she seemed so proud to again be in the lead.

Little John, I don't remember Marcella being down at my end of the park? She wasn't able to climb the hill? Anyway I was there when she made her last walk and have some of her tail hairs that I took before I crawled out of the hole with her. Sad day! Gary

She came to the ride a few times just for the shade, it took her about an hour to walk there and she was usually escorted by a goof with less talent than me. The technique was to pull her ear and watch out that she didn’t fall on you. I will never forget watching Anna May pulling her to her feet on her last few days

Isn't it wonderful watching one elephant helping another. They use fork trucks at tes. So cold and inhumane. But the fork truck is driven by a loving, careing person. Now isn't that just real wonderful? PUKE time again

excuse my ignorance but what is a fork truck?

I drive a fork lift a lot at work, and in the training class they call this vehicle a truck.
