I would bit most people would take these man as motisions and never guess they are clowns. A very handsome group. I have never seen a clown dressed like this on the street. Who was the clown with the long green eye lashes in the 60s. I am thinking Blinko might have been his name.
Hey Rebecca
I thnk it was Blinko(Ernie Burch). He also had a G-clef in the middle of his forhead! He and his wife Maran were long time performers at Circus Circus too. I believe Ernie died a couple years ago & Maran is living in Fl
Maran still lives right across the street from my friend Shane Hansen's parents.
Shortly before he died Ernie came over to give Shane a baseball. "I don't have a son of my own to give this to" he told him, "so I want you to have this."
Shane thanked him and never inspected the ball. Not too long after Shane learned that Ernie had passed. He went and dug out the ball. It's signed by Mantle, Maris and Willie Mays to name just a few.
I don't remember the shrine winter date, but Blinko won the drawing for a new Cadilac car. It was early 60's. I could not make a TV spot so Blinko subed for me.
The story was told many times that Ernie Burch was given the name Blinko by Cecil B. DeMille because of the big eyelashes. Ernie loved to repeat his dialogue with Charlton Heston, who was Brad, the circus boss: "Why the rehearsal just for makeup, Brad?" Brad: "Because you left your eyelashes off in the last show last season."
We remember Mr. Heston told us he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. None of us out here are hearing anything from those around him these days. God bless Brad. He needs our thoughts and prayers.
