Eric asks:

Hi Buckles,

Back in the early 1960's I remember that they used to spray paint elephants different colors for some of the Shrine dates. Is this where they got the idea?

John Heriott told me that when he worked the three Gil Gray elephants, on the bigger Shrine dates he would paint one red, another green and the last yellow (Shrine colors).
He said he knew what to paint them with from making the movie.

Hello Buckles,
I remember Paul & Dorothy Kelly painting the elephant pink for some of the Shrine dates. The story they told was the elephants were out front of the barn enjoying the sun after being colored while several of the Military Top Brass drove by on the way to the base across the street. The Brass told of seeing these pink elephants which gave to great worry on the parts of their superiors about their abilities at that point.
