Polack Bros. Circus 1944/ George Powers and "Lena"

The Polack Show was mostly sponsored by Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and usually appeared indoors or sometimes in Ball Parks and in a one-ring format, featuring the best circus acts in the business. This picture appears to have been taken on a theatrical stage which was often the case. I remember we showed Medinah Temple in downtown Chicago for six weeks.

I remember meeting you and Barbara for the first time at this show. We stood in the back of the balcony watching-your wardrobe included a cape, maybe like a french gendarme. It was not long after the NY Fair ordeal. Roland Natal was there and Douglass w/ the dogs. That really was a hundred years ago.All the trailers parked on the street in the mniddle of Chicago-can you imagine doing that now?

That design on the bottom of the foot is driving me nuts. Is there a reason for it or just an elephant thing? Maybe a Shriner thing? I had surgery done for a hematolA (?) on one of my german shepards that the stitching looked like that on her ear. It was really fun taking them all (40) out and she was pure black.

This is not a design but the unique configuration of this elephants pad.
They should be trimmed back several times each year and this elephant is due. Some that are nervous shuffle their feet a lot and keep their pads rubbed smooth and hardly need trimming at all.
