Al G. Barnes Circus 1933/ Elephant teams pulling wagons

Rather than simply walk the elephants to the lot, the Barnes Show was noted for it's working elephants with a simple philosophy "as long as you are headed that direction you might as well take a wagon with you".
Two teams on this wagon, must have been a heavy load, probably seat planks. The team in front are attatched to a curved metal bar at the end of the wagon tongue called a "goose neck".
The teamster riding the wagon applied the brakes with the use of a steering wheel device.

You have to admit this is example of Animal cruelty. If the corporate leaders of today for RBBB were around this type of animal tragedy would not be happening.

How often in the wild do you see elephants pulling wagons. The people should get off there lazy bums and carry there load and not abuse the animals.

Get lost PETA/TREE HUGGER! There no animal cruelty here. Are you blind? The animal is doing a job in ordered to get food.

Bet this nancy is using the computer at work to write these coments. Not giving her employer an honest days work. Where in the wild did she see elephants? Bet she doesn't know wild from shinola. Must be watching National Georaphic (?) on tv instead of out there making an honest buck.

Hmmm... Elephants have been used as work animals for thousands of years. What the heck, let's play the "Where in the wild" game... Where in the wild are healthy canines and felines euthanized in the back of a PeTA van and dumped in a dumpster? ...Where in the wild are elephants going to live as without protection against poaching as African governments face collapse under the burden of an HIV epidemic that's out of control? Animal Liberation won't save them. Liberation opposes lab animal testing of new HIV drugs, and Liberation opposes captive breeding of elephants -- so if the wild herds disappear, no safety net will remain to safeguard a genetically viable species. Animal Liberation equals extinction.

No need to attack me verbally. I am entitled to my opinion. Atleast I am honest enough to post under my name unlike "anonymous" who I bet is one of those liberal flip flops. Then next post by "anonynmous" will be like, elephants shouldn't be treated like that.
Ben Trumble wehn can we strap you to harness and see how far you can pull a wagon.

Nancy, please stop posting your nonsense comments. Your not making any sense.

PEOPLE, don't pick on Nancy, you have to admit the animals shackled to wagons is not exactly ethical.

Nancy, I'm curious as to whether you see horses in harness, or under saddle as being treated cruelly? How about a leash on a dog? Liberation is a philosophical ideology that assumes an idylic life in "the wild" that simply doesn't exist. It imposes humanistic values on non-human ecologies. I would never argue that spaying and neutering pets is "wrong." However on a purely philosophical level I do wonder, how is spaying or neutering a cocker spaniel any less of a violation of that animal's "rights" than say training an elephant to pull a wagon? Liberation it turns out isn't about "rights" at all, but rather about who plays steward to a species. How can Liberationists be good stewards if they refuse to intervene to prevent extinction?

Nancy I post as anonymous by mistake. animals were used long before trucks were ever invented. Animal and humans worked side by side since before any of us were ever born. Do wish you idiots would keep your own sites and leave honest working people and animals alone. Do you envy us so much you have to find someway to adgatate(?) If you don't like the way we live, leave. You people not only abuse the rights of us but insult the real people who really care. Go do something for that rip off in Tenn. They are going to need all the help they can get. And you get to do it for free. This great country was build by working animals and humans. If it were not for the animals we would not be the great country that we are today. You do dishonor to the animals who made our world a better place by working along side of us.

Nancy, What is your point of commenting on this blog. We are a group of people that had a wonderful family life style with animals for over 200 years. What do you hope to gain by badmouthing us? We all have a history together. You are not a part of this history. Just what is your problem with a group of happy, healthy animals and people? Please find another site to try to disrupt. You have nothing to share. but your own unhappyness. We don't need or want your comments if you have nothing to share with our family. We all know and love one another and are sharing our back ground by remembering those we all loved, animal and human. Please find another way to find your own happyness. We don't need your kind on this blog. We are history. Go make your own.

Mr. Trumble, it's not fair to compare walking a dog to chaining an animal to wagon and expect them to pull the wagon for miles.

nancy It seems you haven't walked too many dogs either. Get some experience doing something before you try to post an opinion about something you know nothing about. Help poor Wendy with her un resolved issues with her father. We circus folks worked 20 hours a day. When did we have the energy or time to cheat on our partners? Now there was that one time???????
