Bill & Trudy Wilson Strong

(maybe) "The Pharoahs"

Their high aerial acts were among the most chilling I ever witnessed. They bought and continued the revered Los Kimris Duo. They worked thrir revolving airplane act as high as 60 to 80 feet above coliseum floors, and just the memory of seeing them revives endless respect.

Trudy took on the Hawthorn tigers for many years. Bill was among the genuinely good guys of the business, but he told me dealing with John Cuneo exhausted the limits of his patience.

a Cuneo Liberty Act

Never saw their high aerial act...one of the regrets of life. Everyone who talks about the act describes it as chilling...as Roger Smith did.

CHARLES: On Hubert Castle in '73, Bill and Trudy joined for an augmented program on a big date--may have been Indianapolis. They were up on the airplane rigging, and Trudy went into her one-foot hang from a trapeze. The plane did a complete turn, plenty for the audience to see the trick. But on a 2nd turn, Trudy wasn't getting up. She reached for the calf of her leg, then went down vertical again. Nini Hall stood beside me, saying, "Son of a bitch, she's in trouble." The act was some 60 feet above the concrete floor, and for this kind of act there is no net. Others gathered around us, as we all stood without breathing as Trudy went into a 4th turn, trying to reach for the bar. With a valiant effort, she grabbed her leg and gripped the bar. Next, she hauled herself into a roll, sat up on the bar and styled. At last, they descended safely to their spotlight. We all wanted to cheer, but no sound came from us. Finally, I found my breath and said, "Which way to the Blue Room?"
