Many decades of research and advanced photo analysis allowed one technician in recent months to positively identify all 6 of the original flag raisers. Joe Rosenthal lamented that yes, it was an iconic photo, but not one face could be seen Shortly after he captured this event, three of the 6 were killed in action. Controversy arose over those names, and many claims came and went as to who was genuinely active in the raising. Check online to find the recent conclusions, thought at last to be final.
