During the Jungleland era, we always handled cubs with heavy gloves. I still have mine. Their primary purpose is protection against those needle-sharp claws even newborns know how to use. When they grip us, whether needing security, feeling confusion, or becoming defensive at being handled, the claws are heard from.

For a couple of months 1 early Spring long ago
I cared for a tiny Leopard cub for Dave Hoover
whose trailer was overflowing with family & pets
along with other feline younguns that year
"Zelda" was a ball of fur with what seemed to
be a thousand tiny razor sharp claws (ouch)
I was a bloody mess by Memorial Day in Philly
when I was very grateful to return her to Dave
