There is expansive history for this show at Circopedia. I will only address 2 points:

On November 12, 1859, at this time-honored location, Jules Leotard introduced his early concepts of the flying trapeze act. Women who wear tights today, calling them Leotards, may or may not know the name came from this pioneer not just of a circus act, but also of his personal style of wardrobe.

And in 1955, Director Carol Reed filmed most of his classic TRAPEZE at the Cirque d'Hiver. The stars were former circus man Burt Lancaster, Tony Curtis--whose flying was doubled by our Far Alexander, and the luscious, still-beautiful Gina Lollobrigida. As late as last Fall, I found this film available on YouTube.

PS; CIRCOPEDIA advises the marble plaque honoring Jules Leotard is still in place at the entrance arch of the performing arena.

PPS: Below the Circopedia coverage of this show, there is an Image Gallery. The program cover for 1974 features Lou Jacobs.
