OFF SUBJECT, AGAIN: Today is Clyde Beatty's birthday, one he shares with Judy Garland and Prince Phillip, who carries on at--what?--97?


Judy died 12 days after her last birthday, in 1969. She was only 47.

The debate remains, but the International Genealogical Index, his early passport birthdates, and his mausoleum marker, all show Beatty's birthyear as 1902. Others insist it was 1903, based on a handwritten note from a sister, signed by his mother who was unable to write. I have to conclude his widow, Jane, and both Ventura County and the State of California, would have verified his year of birth as 1902, before closing his records as passing at age 63.
