Damn it, me too. St. Louis was last night, and I was first asked to be there, right on the heels of being in New York City on the 20th. They firmed up that gathering, and I did not have to hustle back for another flight. Sarasota is the one I wanted to make, especially it being at the Asolo, but PBS and "American Experience" had long since booked their Q&A panel, and nobody needed this washed-up cagehand no more.
My cab brought me into town from JFK, and we crossed on the Queensboro Bridge. Those hundreds of drab high-rise apartment complexes on either side of the East River where not there when I first explored the City, in '74. They are brown and depressing and a terrible detriment to the visuals of urban living, but clearly have to be there for population demands. Grimy is a good description of what people there have no choice but to deal with.

More than that, Kenny will be reprising his heel catch there tonight, and that's what I wanted to see.
Well you better let him know Roger
so he can have an hiour to practice
(I'd like to see that also)
Glad you had a chance to wash up
NY is pretty grimy these days
