Saint-Gaudens did an earlier Diana that was even bigger. In fact, it proved too big and was replaced by this (relatively) smaller one. In 1893, the original Diana was sent to Chicago to be displayed on the Agricultural Building of the Chicago World's Fair. After the Fair closed, it disappeared and has been missing ever since.
In Nashville, Dave Price took me to see the gigantic statue of Athena, a stunning figure of a woman, in a grand building with tall Greek columns. If Diana is missing now, it's not likely anyone will make off with Athena.
