This is the first top that Big Apple put into NYC. Look carefully at the top of photo and you can see the RV's parked in neat rows. Just out of the picture is that they're alongside the Metropolitan Opera House. On the bottom of the photo is West 62nd Street with the semis parked neatly in a row. Brings back wonderful memories!
I forgot to add that on the bottom left (inside the walls) are the elephant stables! Mr Woodcock would be awake in the early AM to exercise them in the ring. Great memories!
I think the photo was taken by Felipe Teran or Sacha Pavlatta or David LeBlanc (Each were Tent Masters) or Mike Leclair (Asst Tent Master). Where'd you get it?
Nobody has mentioned that the very first "top" was set up in Battery Park in Southernmost Manhattan. Diane and I, now just I, have myriads of wonderful memories of the BAC in Lincoln Center, the boroughs and beyond, all the way up to beautiful Shelburne , VT and Hanover, NH. Thank you Paul and Michael.
Duh! Of course the green tent on 6th Ave and 50th ST and in Battery Park City! It was first attempt at a Big Top for the Big Apple. More like a rag bag!

Not your 1st top in NYC Paul
Likely the 1st at Lincoln Center
I recall a slightly ragged top
in the parking lot on the site
of "The Old Garden" actually #3
Maybe back in 77 or 78
I'll post that top another day
My enormous photo collection
has come from many sources

Trump did not "buy" the top, but he did contribute to the total amount that was spent. He, of course, insisted that it be called the Trump Tent.
Sure gonna miss you Kissy
Not a takeover by any means
Just a little help to keep
"The Wheels On The Wagons"
Thanks, Chic. As they say, “No good deed goes unpunished.”
Thanks for the thanks Bob
