The main reason Ursula was so crusty,as John Herriott used to note, is she was on RBB during the ongoing Cold War era, and was here as an Iron Curtain act. Each faction on the show, Bulgarians, Romanians, East Germans, all had Directors. Ursula's East German Director ruled her relentlessly, reminding her, indeed all the communist country acts, of dire consequences if they did not knuckle under, and God help them if they attempted defection. These acts drew full performance fees from the Felds, but the performers were allotted a $7 per diem, to meet their personal needs as best they could. If this oppression led to anyone's sour attitudes, including Ursula's, this is the reason to be understood.
