Horse blankets for a circus spec just don't get any more perfect than this.
Barbara: did you enjoy riding horses, or were you making yourself 'generally useful'?

Dear Patricia, I loved riding " Turk ". Ben had trained him to work the center ring herd from horse back. Like Rex. I worked the herd at Circus World before going on tour. If we had stayed on the show I had intended on doing that. As it was I was making my entrance on him for the big herd in center ring. The entrance lasted 15 minutes. Boy I loved it. God love the show girls & clowns they were whirling and dancing all that time. Then I would gallop him down the front track jump off and take the style that the show girls & clowns had worked so hard for. They were great about it. Of course I loved it, Ham that I am. And Don Foot did a beautiful job on his blanket. So that was not a Spec Blanket. Don Foote made it just for the entrance. I loved Don Foote so much. He made so many beautiful costumes for me....Barbara....

Fun to know, thanks for the info! I always enjoyed riding too, though I never had a blanket this beautiful. I absolutely love this design.

You may know I did elephant mounts for a couple of years, but what nobody knows (until now!) was that I used to wake up in a cold sweat from recurring nightmares of missing a strap and tumbling off the front of the head. Or was it a nightmare not about falling- but about failing? It wasn't the height which bothered me; I'd been riding horses since I was a kid, I guess it just felt more comfortable with a solid horse's neck in front of me. Weird, huh?
