Last Fall when I saw Cole Bros I asked Johnny Pugh what kind of a person was Zack.
Hw told me a story in 1942 Johnny was in the cook house and Zack came in and saw the guy that took care of the calliope.
Johnny said he hit the guy right across the face with his cane and told him he better have steam up for the calliope before he eat.
Johnny was out under the table and in a dead run.
Years later Pugh saw Zack and he said you sure were a fast little guy back then.
It is a sad time for me as the first time in many a year that I have not seen Beatty Cole or Cole Bros in the Fall.
And Johnny Pugh's stories were the best and unvarnished.
