I wonder if Red Skelton's "Freddy the Freeloader" was inspired by him.
Red Skelton's father was a clown on Hagenbeck-Wallace, who had passed away before his birth in 1913. Skelton also worked on Hagenbeck-Wallace as a young teenager before leaving home at the age of 15 to work in Vaudeville. p.j.
Red never forgot his roots in Vincennes, Indiana. They take great pride in their Red Skelton complex there, with a museum to him, and a theatre.
