#1 Slim Lewis

I have two copies of this book, interesting reading but as my father once said, "Perfect title, never stayed around one show long enough to learn how to train anything."

I first read this back in 1961 when I was in high school and have always considered it a better book than Eddie Allen’s FUN BY THE TON. Its only drawback was that it didn’t have any photos. The 1978 reprint (which changed the title to I LOVED ROGUES) more than made up for this shortcoming by having an abundance of photos, although none with Gunther. (Someone once told me that this was because Lewis was miffed at Gunther, who had been too busy watching one of his TV appearances to meet with him.)
