Bert sent me a beautiful 8 x 10 print of this billing stand. Among his most resonating comments during our correspondence was, "I believe in our era of this business, we had the best of it. The business began to change after the Thirties, and after the war, I saw other changes coming that told me it was time to think of moving on." Prophetic words indeed for the cage act, but even so wise a man as Bert Nelson could never have foreseen the American circus without elephants.
