Who is the lady on the right?
Also Buckles, could you please tell me the year this photo was taken? If she can be identified, I'll tell you why I'm so curious... thanks
Hello Patricia,
I shared this photo with Buckles a few years ago. This was taken on RBBB on October 3rd, 1944. It was taken in Beaumont Texas at Stuart Stadium were the show was set up. Stuart Stadium was built in 1929 for the Texas League "Beaumont Exporters" who played at Stuart from 1929 to 1955 except for the war years 43-45 when the Texas league ceased operations. In 1955 this stadium was torn down for a new shopping center, and I think the bank at one time had a mural of the old ballpark facing Ave. A were the ballpark had been. Helen Siegrist was visiting and this photo shows Helen on the left side of the photo and Bebe Siegrist on the right. p.j.
Thank you 4pawfan for responding! This is a crazy long shot, but here is why I am so curious. My mother was born August 31, 1930. She was given up shortly there after in Royal Oak, Michigan. Sent to a "children's home" (read 'orphanage')for about 1 1/2 years, then adopted by the kind folks who became my grandparents. The orphanage burned down sometime after that, all records lost. What has this to do with anything? Bebe Siegrist is a dead ringer for my mother in her youth. Not slight resemblance, 'reminds me of..' They look EXACTLY
alike. I gasped when I saw this photo, sent it to my oldest brother, he responded the same way. Maybe it's silly, but I couldn't help but wonder if Bebe is somehow related to my Mom. A sister? Aunt? Her mother even? Who knows. The disconnect of my Mom's biological family always weighed heavily on Mom; she passed away in 2011.
I'm probably way off in left field, but I felt compelled to explore the identity of the lady in this picture. Thank you again for providing the date and her name. P. White
Bebe Siegrist passed in 1991 at age of 82. She was from the Costello/Wallet family from England I think. There is a great deal written about the Siegrist troupes on the many different shows over the years. Even if you are not connected, it will make for some interesting reading. You can search the CHS site and maybe look into the older Billboards. One thing to remember, is that Michigan was settled with a lot of people with English ancestry. So it could just be a distance cousin. best regards p.j.
Thank you for further suggestions. On exploring a few census records, I discovered Bebe and husband Joe Siegrist were staying at a boarding house in NC in 1940, with their daughter Joanne, who was 11. So in 1930, they would have had a one year old baby in the house already. Lean times then. I learned on the CHS website the Castello family (Bebe's maiden name) also went by Loughlin in some records. Don't know why (yet). As you say, the research is an interesting adventure in itself. All this is most likely a strange curious coincidence, but I'll keep reading. You never know!
(You've probably guessed "Who Do You Think You Are" is one of my favorite programs!) Thanks again
