"I asked my father how this worked and he said the elephant walked up the board, tipped it forward and stopped then Miss Nelson would step in front of her and "Tillie" would take one big step backwards and "Voila!"
I'll bet the Vaudeville Stage Hands loved this prop.

Did Ms Nelson then land on Tillie?
Adele Nelson came from an acrobatic family and her husband Louis Reed was a noted trainer so I'm confident everything went as planned.
