Broadway Delights attends the opening night of Jumbo at the New York Hippodrome in 1935.
A mere 80 years ago.
Barbette, the Kimris and the Stonleys (sp?) are featured during the rehearsal.
The aerial production featuring Barbette trapeze is hailed as, "One of the most spectacular chorus numbers ever staged,"
At the conclusion of Barbette's number you can see him removing his wig to which Jimmy Durante exclaims, "Betrayed!"
Buckles, which elephant was used during the Broadway run? I know there were several elephants used for the motion picture in the 1960s.
Wonderful Jimmy Durante. No performer loved showbusiness more than he. Catch his charming magic on YouTube--especially the song he sings about the circus.
