To Ryan Easley

Darlene is right, I checked the '85 list and found no "Lydia" on the Vargas Show however I can recall a couple of Horror Stories from either Wally Ross or Rex Williams about her making a brief stay there.
I also heard about her vanishing from a shopping Mall while carrying a howdah full of kids.
After a frantic search she finally wandered back on her own and the kids later told of having passed over Interstate 44 and thru the YMCA parking lot.

Wow. What a story !

Thanks again for posting these. There is so much information to absorb. I see a new name Rosie on the Vargas herd. I wonder if she is the elephant Rosie from the Bucky Steele 1975 herd ? I notice two of the last three do not have new names listed ( Alita & Topsy ). Rex renamed everything, so I assume Rosie is the original name as well. It seems Topsy had a similar "crazy" history like Lydia on the show and didn't stay for long.

In October 1980, a letter was published in Circus Report from Circus Vargas addressed to Ms. Tata, refuting her claim of Buke as only performing & breeding male in country. They claim to have three breeding males on the show. The herd is lsited as Toppsy, Sue, Gip, Toosh, Hatti, Kate, Lottie, Minnie, Boop, Gardner, Petely, Tusko. Definitely missing is Colonel, Shirley and McClain. Reasonable assessment that Rosie and Alita may have become Sue and Toosh / Tuss, but who knows ?

( Probably you, Buckles, hidden in those wonderful files of yours ! ) Thanks again.

The 1985 Circus Report census lists Lydia with David Tesch in 1985.
