To Ryan Easley

Do you have a record for a Barnum & Bailey elephant "Judy" that was hanged in St. Louis in 1917 because of lockjaw This information comes from a September 22, 1917 Billboard. It adds she was 50 years old. Thanks for the help.

I had that same info from Richard Reynolds- the Billboard says hanged Oct 20, 1917 in St Louis but the Barnum show was in Macon on that date.

Oops I must have had the date wrong. B&B was in East St L on Sept 10, 1917. I have nothing else on this Judy.

Very interesting. Thank you both.

The Billboard, Sept. 22, 1917 on page 28 said she was 50 years old and had lockjaw. Her death by hanging was a form of Euthanasia at the time. This is the only reference to this elephant I have ever found so I wonder if Judy was the name in print but not the real name.
