In 1944, the Wallendas were the third display in the
program, immediately following Alfred Court’s three cage acts. They were aloft performing during the July
6th matinee at Hartford, Connecticut when the flames first appeared
that would eventually destroy the big top.
Being highly trained performers, they were all able to descend and escape
the burning tent without injury.

There were only two Alfred Court acts under canvass at the time of the circus fire. The indoor three acts were listed as May Kovar, Joseph Walsh and Willy Storey. I believe there were only two animal acts in the rings, center and the ring in front of the band. I think it was Storey who wasn't there. But there was definatly only two rings working at the time of the fire.

I think I left out one of the "L's" in Wallenda.

In the comment above it seems you
left out all the letters Jackie
I don't see "Wallenda" at all
Perhaps it was another comment
You would never believe that some one of my great mind and intellect could ever forget something like that. Actually, Chic, it's a wonder I remember anything. Yes I did confuse it with another comment. Luv ya, Jackie LeClaire
Im pretty sure Willy Storey was there. I recall his account of that day, although I cant say if he was presenting the act or not...Just that he was "running" the cats out of the ring as the fire broke out.
The Hartford Fire Department had/has a clip from the fire itself in a promotional video they showed us in the early 80's, and Willy identified himself in a VERY brief shot in the video.
