The Sells Floto title was long
forgotten by most folks when it
was demothballed in the late 60s
plucked from the depths of the
burried treasure obtained in the
multi faceted Feld transactions
Bobby Johnsen took with him to
his grave many valuable details
It seems that many of the early
elephant folk's outfits were of
a millitary style & I wonder if
that was due to availability of
them from uniform companies
Many of these uniforms were designated for departments. In the days when workingmen were sedately but routinely uniformed, theirs were darker, with often wide black stripes on the jackets. The more elegant, as seen with Ms. Zora, were special ordered, but quickly constructed by these specialized companies. Mabel Stark's, of which I have 4, came from DeMoulin Bros., of Greenville, Illinois, a firm still in business. These were basically college and high school band uniforms, with style points and colors selected by circus artists from well-illustrated catalogues.
